For example, you can control volume with the wheel when a button or hotkey is pressed, when the mouse cursor is over the taskbar or a specific window, or even when a media player is in focus. Nirsoft’s Volumouse is a tiny and portable tool of less than a few hundred KB. Note you can only exit the program from Task Manager because it lacks a tray icon or options window. One unfortunate drawback of Volume Indicator Popup is its memory usage fluctuates between 13MB and 70MB every time you alter your volume. The indicator will appear in the center of the screen when you alter the system volume. There is only a single translucent style volume indicator but it should be large and clear enough to be satisfactory. Volume Indicator Popup is portable so just extract the Zip file and run the program. While this may not be enough for some, a no frills tool that does what it’s supposed to will be what many people are after. It has no configuration settings or options windows at all and simply runs in the background on launch. Volume Indicator Popup is without doubt the simplest and easiest tool to use here. 3RVX comes in both portable and setup installer versions. While in the background the program uses around 2-4MB of memory depending on the skin used. Hot keys can be configured, simply press add, set your key/mouse combination and choose the action from the drop down. The 3RVX settings do allow you to have sounds effects for the volume control and to set the position and speed of the indicator. It’s also possible to download third party skins from Deviantart. You can download the source Zip file, extract and copy the skin folders into Skins in the 3RVX directory. The 3RVX source code on Github does actually contain another 10 or so skins. It does have a few other functions to display on screen such as brightness, eject and keyboard although they are currently in development and not complete.Ĭurrently there are 5 volume indicator skins available which can be selected from the drop down in General Settings. If you’re stuck with the basic Windows volume control options using the icon in the system tray, there is a solution. Newer versions of Windows have some basic on screen displays but they’re not brilliant. Hilberseimer's Decentralized City was published for the first time in The New City magazine in 1944. Each block, of 100 x 600 m, provides housing for 9,000 people and 90,000 m 2 of business space. The city houses 120 blocks ordered in 12 x 10. The project of the High Rise City was considered by Hilberseimer to be an authentic vertical city. As in medieval cities in which living and working took place in the same building, in the High Rise City the activities were organized vertically in it and both systems of circulations, the vertical and the horizontal, went from home to work. The city is based on a unit that contains a community. The city should be the base of the organization and the states should be organized into larger units. His proposal was conceived for a system with a strong central power, the city being the center of said power. The housing block replaces the individual housing, so that the importance of the collective exceeds the individual. The idea of Hilberseimer for the city was based on a scheme of organization of relations between parts. The High Rise City was a model based on practical aspects, designed in terms of the existing technology, as well as the economy and the social context. This project was probably Hilberseimer's best known. It were these circumstances that made him dedicate his efforts to solve those problems, thus emerging his project of the Hochhausstadt (High Rise City). From this study he deducts that in spite of solving the problem of housing in the surrounding area, the traffic problem continues to exist. The architect studied different solutions for the problem of traffic in the Unite dStates, such as the proposal of elevated streets, being influenced by satellite cities, which he had studied and analyzed. Here, Hilberseimer raised his principles on architecture and city planning. ![]() In 1924 Hilberseimer designed the High Rise City, published in 1927 in his book Großstadtarchitektur. The interior layout of the apartments was designed so that the rooms faced the patio and the living room and the stairs gave onto the street, allowing cross ventilation. These apartments had always the same size and space, regardless of whether it had a street or a courtyard in between, and they were always located taking into account the orientation of the sun, facing east and west. The shorter sides of each block include shops and offices, with the apartments on the longer sides of the 5-story buildings. Each block has an approximate size of 40 x 330 meters. The city consisted of 72 blocks arranged in 12 x 6 with approximately 1750 people per block. The residential city is a model for a satellite city of 125,000 inhabitants, linked to a metropolitan transport network and with residence as the main theme. Similarly in the scheme of the metropolis, Hilberseimer was interested in the residential building as the most common way of living in German cities. In 1925 Hilberseimer published his design of a Wohnstadt (Residential City), dating its development in 1923. The architect and urban planner superficially addressed the issues that worried Walter Gropius at that time, both in his activity as an architect and his position in the Bauhaus. These ideas would cristalize into his conception of the New City, which would reach its full development during his American exile.Īs for the criticisms and articles that Hilberseimer wrote, those where he attacked the architects for not being able to adapt to the serial industrial production that would prevail in the future stand out. ![]() This would lead him to develop a review of his previous research on the modern metropolis, transforming it into a less dense model, more diffuse and integrated in the territory. Hilberseimer tries to generate proposals, in order to adapt to the European social changes of the time. These works allow us to discover a careful project methodology, based on abstraction. (1) Until the late 1920s, Hilberseimer would not revise his first urban models, such as the Wohnstadt (Residential City) in 1923 or the Hochhausstadt (Vertical City) in 1924. Hilberseimer finished his studies in 1911 which is when he began his work as a writer and architecture critic. His writings would be key in popularizing Mies van der Rohe, with whom he worked in the founding of the "November Group" and the "Albeitsrat für Kunst". ![]() ![]() ![]() You’d be forgiven if you didn’t recognize, Small Double Ended, of metal and fiber, as a work by Seelig made nearly 25 years later. One of the primary ways of making it safer to walk at night is to make sure that your dog is visible to you at all times. Make sure that you train them at their own pace and only progress to walk at night once they are entirely comfortable with it. You should never force your dog to walk and if your dog is scared of the dark you should undertake additional training to help them to conquer this fear, always be patient with them and never punish them. ![]() It is important to point out that some dogs are afraid of the dark and sometimes the dark can make other fears, such as loud noises, worse. Their improved vision (coupled with their sense of smell) could make them more likely to chase after something, be spooked or to run off into the darkness which could result in them getting lost or. It is important to remember that just because your dog can see better in the dark than you can, that you must never take this for granted. They also have more rods in their retinas and a tapetum behind the retina which reflects light, increasing the brightness and making them better equipped to deal with low light situations. Dogs have bigger pupils than humans which lets in more light. Can dogs see in the dark?ĭogs do see much better than humans in the dark due to the design of their eyes, however, this does not make them invincible in the darkness and additional measures should always be taken to keep them safe. That is without taking into account other potential hazards (who may also not be able to see you) such as drivers, joggers, cyclists and other dog walkers. The second playthrough is where the game becomes itself, so to speak, as I act out the journey with perfected pacing. The first playthrough serves as script notation and dress rehearsal, allowing me to work out the kinks and the catches. So now, I treat them like movies for me to perform. They’re narratively static, built like movies, moving from scene to scene in precisely the same manner every time. For example, how I play this sort of platforming adventure game has changed over the years. And the solution may fall as much on the player (read: me) as the designer. To counter myself, the problems may just be inevitable side effects of this style of game. These flaws held back Inside and Limbo, and it’s disappointing to see them now span three games over 12 years, presumably following creative talent from one studio to another. Somerville’s director and writer, Chris Olsen, came from the world of animation, and from that, he brings a more acute interest in the cinematic - not just in blockbuster set-pieces, but the little things, too: the wide shot and the close-up. Following the release of Inside, Playdead co-founder and executive producer Dino Patti left the studio and founded Jumpship, where he hired new talent.
